Even the disciples asked, teach us how to pray. So it’s okay for us to ask too! I think a problem we have today is that we all want an answer to prayer but nobody wants to spend time praying. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, the Bible tells us to praying without ceasing. This doesn’t tell us that it’s up to a special team or there is a certain time to pray but that Jesus commands us all to pray and to pray without stopping. So how do we do this? The great thing is we have a God who is alive and active in our life and we are promised answered prayers. If we know how to pray then we can start seeing the results we want!
Matthew 7:7-8 tells us, keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened. What can we learn from this?
- We should be asking. God is honored by our ask. A lot of time what keeps us from getting what we want is simply us just not asking! We are waiting for Him to offer instead of diligently asking Him. Don’t ask as a victim or beggar, ask with authority because we know Jesus has given us all authority. Begin to demand your rights, don’t allow the enemy to take from you what Jesus died to give you!
- We should be seeking. When you seek something, it is an active thing, something you are going after and looking for. What if you woke up every day with an excited anticipation that something good is going to happen? If you know that something good is coming your way, like an Amazon package, you begin to look for it. Let’s live our lives looking forward to and expecting something good from God!
- We should be knocking. Have you ever been to a house before for the first time and been a tad nervous to knock on the door so you double check the address to make sure you are at the right place? In Matthew 16:19, we see that we have the keys to the kingdom. Keys here are the access, ownership, authority, and authorization that we need to open the door. Maybe you are praying for healing, or restoration for your marriage. Friend, God has already given you the keys! In the same way we look to see if we are at the right place by double checking the address, Gods word is the verification that we can show up with access, authority, and ownership of everything that God has for you! The enemy has to surrender what is rightfully yours!
If you want more, it’s yours! Ask, seek, and knock and see what God begins to reveal in your life.
