God can fully function on his own. However, He chooses to labor and partner with us. He wants us to be a part of what He is doing and what He is building so much so that He gave us the keys to do it! Matthew 16:19 tells us, I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. The keys of the kingdom mean that we have access to God’s house. This kingdom does not lack and has everything you need and more! The main thing we forget is that we actually have to use them. Just like any other key, it won’t work or unlock something without using it. We are not called to be spectators of this Earth, He wants us to be participators! So many people are waiting on the sidelines for God to show up, and I want to tell you friend that Christianity is not a spectator sport. God calls us to be co-laborers with Him, not to stand by and watch. We are supposed to bring Heaven to Earth and we do that by what we are saying and what we are praying. How many times in your life has a storm shown up and all of the sudden we forget all that God has done when we have everything we need right there in our hands? These storms in our life can reveal some truths:

  1. It reveals wrong thinking. Jesus never tells us what the journey will be, He just tells us what the end result is. When we let the storm become the main focus in our life it changes the way we see Jesus, and in return our focus is on our circumstance.
  2. It reveals true motives. Why you are doing what you are doing is more important than what you are doing. It’s easy to serve God when everything is going right, your true motives show up when everything is not going the way you planned.
  3. It shows endurance. If we can’t follow through with basic requirements how will we in the midst of a battle. Are you willing to go the long haul? Are you willing to be with Him when things aren’t always great? Negative circumstances in the battle reveal if we have endurance for the long haul!

Friend, whatever storm you are facing, no matter what your circumstances look like I want to declare over your life that you have the power of Jesus behind you and the keys in your hand! Press on!
